 Bentham Project  Publications  Utilitas

The writings of Jeremy Bentham are of immense significance to students of philosophy, law, politics, economics, and intellectual history. The Bentham Project at University College London is producing a new scholarly edition of Bentham's works, published by Oxford University Press, and promoting utilitarian studies more generally through Utilitas, a journal devoted to all aspects of utilitarianism.

The International Society for Utilitarian Studies is meant to reflect the world-wide interest in the Project, the expansion of Bentham studies, and the growing interest in utilitarianism. The aims of this body are to further the work of the Bentham Project in making available all of Bentham's writings in modern scholarly editions; to organise seminars and conferences on topics relevant to lawyers, philosophers, political scientists and historians; and to provide a forum for debate and research on utilitarianism and its present-day relevance in the fields of legal, political and social reform.

The Society aims to draw its membership from as wide a field as possible and thus stimulate a useful exchange of ideas on historical and contemporary issues.
Members of the Society are entitled to the following benefits :
  • A copy of Utilitas (3 numbers per year)
  • Discounts of 25% on the Collected Works
  • Volumes and related OUT publications.

  • All correspondence with the Society should be addressed to:
